NEW YORK GRAFFITI HISTORY
The collection features work from influential New York graffiti writers and artists including KEL, MARE 139, BILL BLAST, and others whose careers grew from the streets, trains and creative communities that helped establish New York City graffiti as a global art movement.
Graffiti in New York developed through generations of artists writing names, building crews, filling black books and transforming letters into increasingly complex forms. What began throughout neighborhoods including the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn eventually moved from subway cars and walls into galleries, museums, fashion, music and contemporary art around the world.
